Flying Lotus

urbansteve’s footage from the Flying Lotus set at Mutek 2008.. he’s playing Archangel by Burial:

Shingo and MissRuckus caught FlyLo in Toronto not too long ago and had our minds completely blown!

MissRuckus says:

“Amazing show! I had heard FlyLo stuff here and there cuz a few of my friends kept hyping him up, but for some reason, I wasn’t really grabbed by what I had heard. Then I heard this track which I really liked (especially the ending part that starts around 2:26) and decided to go check him out when he came to town this month. So glad I did! Best show I have seen in awhile! Beyond the fact that he is visually engaging to watch (nothing quite like seeing someone so into what they are doing and truly enjoying themselves!), it was the actual music that grabbed me.. he spun a set that kept us on our toes (in a metaphorical way, not dancing way) yet also in our heads the whole time, amazed by something that sounded so incredibly fresh and new. I could have been blindfolded and felt like I experienced an amazing live show, on the force of the aural journey alone. It was pure candy. The man is unique. I am now a believer.”

The next morning, Shingo said:

“last night he SO killed it with Ableton and a lot of effects, but the show was definitely not long enough. I have never seen a DJ that enthusiastic or bold with track selection. sick.”

And urbansteve? Well, he truly regrets not going. “Well, I saw him last year in Montreal and even though I was visually and sonically blown away maybe I can skip this one,” thought urbansteve, with a slight undertone of foreboding in the back of his mind. “But damn, seeing as how Ruckus, Shingo and others won’t shut up about the show, I know now I made a huge mistake!” urbansteve now listens to his fellow hotsaucers.

Interesting tidbit: Did you know that FlyLo (née Steven Ellison) is the great-nephew of Alice Coltrane?
