Bollywood session musician, Charanjit Singh released a record in 1982 called “Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat” which contained acid house music, years before the genre was ever created. Only a few hundred copies of the LP were ever pressed, with only a handful that survived. The album sounds light years ahead of its time. It was performed on Roland TB-303 synths and TR-808 synths (that would later define Acid House). He set out to translate ancient Indian classical Ragas to the modern synthesizer and in doing so, may have invented House music along the way. It sounds incredibly contemporary. It’s pretty incredible. I wonder if Bollywood movies were playing this? Thanks to DJ Jason Ulrich on this one.
Proto Acid House from India!
