On Mother’s Day, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey (aka J Dilla‘s mom) announced the official launch of Ruff Draft Records, her own label (named after the 2003 Dilla EP) that will focus on releasing posthumous releases by her son, and possibly releases by new artists as well. The first release will be Rebirth of Detroit, due out on June 12th.
Another release has just been announced as well – this one on Mahogani Music (the label run by Hot Sauce favourite, Moodymann), due out on May 25th in North America (June 12th elsewhere, or so I heard). Dillatroit is billed as an EP but we’ll be treated to 12 tracks on a 12″ slab of wax (limited edition).
As a Dilla fan, I’m trying to be patient about getting my grubby paws on “new” Dilla tracks but holy shit, I can’t wait!
