The first time I ever heard this track, I was completely and utterly floored. A seriously killer Ghanaian highlife track, it was apparently a big hit in Ghana back when it was first released:
Kyen Kyen Bi Adi Mawu – Alhaji K. Frimpong
You can nab a $200 original vinyl copy on Ebay. Yeah, I wish..

I first heard this track several years ago on this interesting blog and it was one of those revelatory moments of hearing something amazing for the first time.

It also appears on this amazing 2001 compilation (Kona Records.. does this label still exist?). Hard to find now on vinyl, but the CD floats around:

Fortunately, you can also find two of Frimpong’s other tracks on both of the Ghana Soundz compilations on Soundway Records:

I love these kinds of old gems, where in addition to the track itself blowing you away, the unpolished, vintage production quality also helps to transport me back to another time and place, another sweaty dancefloor…

love that Ghana Soundz album (vol.1). never get tired of playing that one.
Also, I think it’s funny that the Afro Rock album cover has what looks like a huge rock on an african dude- how literal!
permalink of the entire tape put online! sweet!
