What can I say that has not been said already? 2009 was a great year for music! I kept discovering new tracks, new artists, and most importantly, new sounds to my ears that made me excited about music again and again and again. I’m pretty bad at coming up with yearly “best of” lists since the stuff I hear towards the end of the year makes a bigger impact on my really bad memory, and I tend to not be so concerned with finding the “newest” stuff (undiscovered good music comes from every year!).. but here is my attempt to come up with a list of some of my favourite tracks of 2009.

Favourite new artist of 2009:

Floating Points
I love everything that this young British producer puts out and look forward to hearing more from him in 2010. Keep your eyes and ears open ’cause I think this kid is gonna blow up somewhere, somehow!
Favourite music movements (not necessarily of just 2009, but either 2009 is when I noticed it more, or 2009 continued to bring a steady incline):
• Dubstep – the music that I thought I didn’t like at all
• Things going the way of the tech (tech house? tech-y dubstep?)
• The comeback of house music beyond the dedicated house scene
• House heads going techno
• The infiltration of disco
• Electronic infiltration of hip hop (Flying Lotus?), funk (Dam-Funk?) and soul
• Young people in the UK putting out really good music (Floating Points? Joy Orbison? Mizz Beats? All those young UK dubsteppers?)

Like a lot of stuff on your list… will check out the links… word to Hot Sauce.
finally listened to all your links, ruckus. that first hunee track is awesome. Been digging Tensnake’s tracks these days–nice robot video. Ya, Omar S is finally getting props. That remix of Martyn slipped by me this year, good find. Still not fully on the Joker train yet, but i respect how he’s bending the genre. The jay tripwire remix of the dual city track is fine. good work, MissHotSauce!

Floatingpoints is a monster. Dude has PhD in neuroscience and still finds the time to make it happen. Shouts to FPS and Eglo.
