So for 2 months now, i’ve been doing a reggae, roots, dancehall night along with selector Earl Grey (Brutha Chris!) called Lansdowne Hi-Fi. Although I don’t play full on reggae at many Hot Sauce parties, it’s always a good time to dust off the 45s and old reggae albums and “watch how the people dem dancing”. This mix is all about a chronology of dancehall – from the late 70′s djs to the digital revolution of the 80′s up to the early 90′s. A time when you and your friends knew all the words, where the basslines made of drums could be thumped by your hands on your highschool desks;and when digital effects and sirens were novel and fun and untainted by the rubbish of modern day auto-tuning. This is Dancehall inna da Place! Download, enjoy and watch for vol 2: the hits!
